Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk Named Best Cities For Telecommuting
Hartford Ranked 3rd Best In US, While New Haven Placed 6th

The Intel Corporation recently released a study, conducted by Sperling's BestPlaces, spotlighting cities across the country that hold the greatest potential for telecommuting.

Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk, Connecticut were named the medium metropolitan area "Best City for Teleworking" in America. In all, three of the top six medium sized metro areas with the most telecommuting potential are in Connecticut, with Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford placing third, and New Haven-Milford sixth.

The survey looked at cities in four different market sizes and identifies cities that hold the greatest potential for telecommuting based on a variety of factors including typical commuting times, fuel prices, availability of broadband internet access, and the percentage of the population in telecommute friendly jobs.

Washington, DC was named at the top of the very large metro area category followed by Boston, Atlanta, Chicago and San Francisco. The large metro area category was topped by San Jose, CA, followed by Baltimore, Denver, San Diego and Indianapolis. Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk, Connecticut led the medium metro area category and Boulder, CO headed up the small metro area list.

"Recent increases in fuel prices, crowded highways and security concerns have all combined to make telework increasingly important in today's world," said Bert Sperling, principal author of the study. "Our analysis shows that working from home even one day a week can have a huge beneficial effect for employees, companies and the entire community."
