Hartford/New Haven Among Top 10 "Most Wired" Metro Areas

Here's good news for Connecticut employers contemplating telecommuting. There's a very good chance your current and future employees will have the computer skills they need to work remotely. According to Nielsen/Net Ratings, the combined Hartford/New Haven region has the 8th highest "Internet penetration" in the country. That's the percentage of households that have personal computers with Internet access. (Portland tops the list). This information, coupled with likelihood of high personal computer use in affluent Fairfield County, means that Connecticut has a high degree of computer literacy among its workforce, compared with other parts of the country. The additional good news for Connecticut employers is that, if they offer a telecommuting option, their employees should not have a steep learning curve regarding the technologies needed to communicate with managers, co-workers and customers from a remote site.
