State of Virginia Launches Telework Incentive Program for Businesses

Virginia businesses that begin or expand formal telework programs may be eligible for up to $35,000 in reimbursements for costs associated with such programs -- thanks to a new initiative launched by the state, under the auspices of telework!va, a public/private telework partnership for businesses in northern Virginia. The program is a two-year pilot program with a budget of $3 million administered by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) through the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG).

Expenses eligible for reimbursement include:

The lease costs for telework-related equipment, such as computers, servers, modems, telephone equipment, scanners, faxes, and printers.
Technical assistance for setting up programs and installing equipment.
Training of teleworkers and their supervisors.
Telework center space.

To be eligible for participation in the program, companies must:

Have a minimum of 20 employees.

Offer a formal telework program with opportunities for qualified employees to telework from home or a telework center.

Have their teleworking employees working from home or a telework center for at least eight days per month.
